Pool Deck Pavers: Travertine

If you are building a brand new pool or just looking to refresh an already existing deck with a resurfacing, you might have a hard time deciding what type of stone you want to use for your deck. There are lots of different finishes available nowadays, but Florida Pavers & Pergolas recommends using Travertine. There are a few reasons we recommend using travertine, lets take a minute to break down this recommendation into a few different points.

What is Travertine?

Travertine is natural stone that is in the limestone family and is usually found around mineral springs, primarily hot springs. Travertine is normally a tan/cream color, but can also be found in black, white, grey, and sometimes rust colorways. Travertine can have a flat or polished finish depending on how you decide to seal it - which allows it to fit well in almost every type of design scheme.

What are the Benefits of Travertine?

Durability

Due to where it is naturally found, travertine is very durable. Travertine is relatable to marble in terms of hardness. On the Mohs Hardness Scale, Travertine ranks in at a 4. This means that you can barbeque and entertain your guests without fear of damaging your travertine tile pool deck.

Heat & Water Resistant

Due to where it is naturally found, travertine is extremely resistant to high heat temperatures & high levels of moisture - both great reasons to use this type of stone for your pool deck, especially in Florida, the sunshine state. Travertine is also slip-resistant due to the slightly rough surface, which is what you want when you’re running around barefoot jumping in and out of your swimming pool.

Eco-Friendly & Easy to Replace

Travertine tiles are extremely low maintenance & eco-friendly. However, Unlike marble, the travertine adopts an environmentally friendly manufacturing process. Down the road, if for some reason you find yourself needing to remove or replace your travertine, don’t fret, travertine is one of the cleanest tiles to deal with. You can easily pull out the broken tile/tiles and replace them without needing to be a professional.

Price Point: Affordable

Travertine is one of the most affordable options when it comes to pool deck pavers. If you are leaning towards going with marble or another type of natural stone, you might change your mind once you see how much it is going to cost you. Travertine is significantly less expensive than those other natural stones, without making you suffer from a decline in quality.
